Dimension Films has finally found a director to take on the mantle of the latest Halloween franchise instalment. And it’s someone with a little bit of horror experience.

Rob Zombie – the twisted brain behind The Devil’s Rejects and House Of 1000 Corpses – will write, direct and produce the next outing for Michael Myers and his scary Shatner mask.

According to horror tome Bloody Disgusting, Zombie has pitched a new take on the Halloween legend that will simultaneously reboot the franchise and take it in a new direction. He’s hoping to reach out to non-horror fans as well as the faithful. "I have been a huge, huge fan of John Carpenter's original film since its release. So when Bob Weinstein approached me about this, I jumped at the chance to join forces with Dimension Films on this amazing project,” Zombie told Bloody Disgusting about the new film.

Bob Weinstein, who will be glad to finally get out of the rumour stage, was happy to talk up Zombie’s involvement: “Rob Zombie is a gifted musician and performer as well as a talented filmmaker. His vision for this new Halloween is spectacular and I am thrilled to be collaborating with him.”

Expect Myers to return to screens in October next year.
