We're used to seeing Halle Berry in front of the camera, but for a new film, she's aiming to step behind it as well as starring. Berry will make her directorial debut with Bruised.

With a script written by Michelle Rosenfarb, the film will tell the story of Jackie (Berry), a single mother trying to make ends meet working two jobs and still haunted by her disgraced Mixed Martial Arts career. And then a new challenge arises when the authorities threaten to take her son away from her. Lacking other ways to drum up the money she needs to sort her life out, she heads back into the cage for one last chance.

While Blake Lively was attached to star last year with Nick Cassavetes in the director's chair, Berry has plucked the project from limbo and will work with John Wick producer Basil Iwanyk and the fight choreography team from the Keanu Reeves-starring film series to bring the film to life. The cameras should be rolling in March.

Talking of Wick, Berry will be seen in the third entry, subtitled Parabellum (or simply Chapter Three, depending on where you look), out on 17 May next year.
