John Travolta remains in talks to play Edna Turnblad in the new movie musical version of Hairspray based on the Broadway adaptation of John Waters' cult film. And if you’ve ever wanted to see Travolta drag up, you’d better pray he signs on.

Billy Crystal is also in talks and Queen Latifah – who has worked with director Adam Shankman before (on Bringing Down The House) is expected to play Motormouth Maybelle.

New Line is holding open casting calls for major roles such as Tracey, Seaweed and Lil’ Inez, so if you live in the US- or can get there- and fancy trying out for a big movie musical, now’s your chance…

The film is planned for a summer 2007 release.
