All Hail The New Children Of The Corn

The last time we counted, the Children Of The Corn franchise – based, increasingly loosely, on the Stephen King short story - had approximately 278 sequels in the can. About time, then, for a remake, you might think.

And the Sci-Fi Channel agrees, for it’s been prepping a TV movie redo for some time, with Donald P. Borchers at the helm. And today he added a cast.

David Anders – last seen being buried alive in his role as Heroes uber-villain Adam Monroe – and Kandyse McClure will play the second-honeymooning couple who blunder into the wrong small town – complete with a creepy cult of killer kids who worship… something that walks in the nearby cornfields.

Preston Bailey will play the cult’s leader, Isaac, while Daniel Newman will play his rebellious right-hand man, Malachi. And the movie is currently shooting in and around Davenport, Iowa, with an air date set to be scheduled for sometime next year.

Why are we telling you this if it’s a TV movie? Well, you never know – it might end up heading straight to DVD in the UK, and it’s a slow news day. And hey, you never know – this might end up being better than the 1984 original. Which is hardly noteworthy, of course, but in the horror genre these days, we thank heaven for small mercies.
