Dickens' A Christmas Carol has been brought to life so many times in different formats across stage and screen that it's hard to imagine someone finding a fresh take. Steven Knight, though is ready to accept that challenge. So here's Guy Pearce's Scrooge being haunted – in this first teaser, at least – by Andy Serkis' Ghost Of Christmas Past.

Knight certainly appears to have dialled up the darkness on this one, with director Nick Murphy going for stylish gloom and, if we're not mistaken, the duo is taking some liberties with the story in order to make this adaptation stand out. Dickens' moral fable has always had deeper meanings, and this clearly seems to be digging into them.

Joe Alwyn, Stephen Graham, Jason Flemyng, Johnny Harris and Charlotte Riley are also part of the cast for the three-part miniseries, hitting the BBC this festive season and US network FX around the same time.
