You don’t need us to tell you that the Russo Brothers – aka Joe and Anthony Russoreally know how to put together an action sequence. From the grounded, gritty combat of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, to the all-out battle spectacular of Avengers: Endgame, the pair have been responsible for some of the most exciting sequences in the last decade of movies. Now, they’re back (and back with writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely) for The Gray Man, a major new action-thriller coming to Netflix this summer, packed with stars – among them, a certain Chris Evans. Hey, when it comes to action, he can do this all day.

Based on Mark Greaney’s novel, the film stars Ryan Gosling as black ops mercenary Court Gentry, who’s left running for his life after he uncovers secrets that weren’t meant for public consumption. Hot on his heels is Evans’ fearsome Lloyd Hansen, who’ll stop at nothing to track him down. And elsewhere in the fray are the likes of Ana de Armas, Bridgerton’s Regé Jean-Page, The Matrix Resurrections’ Jessica Henwick, Billy Bob Thornton and more. Like we said, a stacked cast. And you can see a bunch of them in action in these brand new first-look images.

Here’s the official synopsis: “The Gray Man is CIA operative Court Gentry (Ryan Gosling), aka, Sierra Six. Plucked from a federal penitentiary and recruited by his handler, Donald Fitzroy (Billy Bob Thornton), Gentry was once a highly-skilled, Agency-sanctioned merchant of death. But now the tables have turned and Six is the target, hunted across the globe by Lloyd Hansen (Chris Evans), a former cohort at the CIA, who will stop at nothing to take him out. Agent Dani Miranda (Ana de Armas) has his back. He’ll need it.”

The film, which also comes from the Russos’ production company AGBO, looks set to be one of the most exciting movies of the summer – an MCU reunion in all but name. And the good news is, it’ll be on our screens in just a few months time, confirmed to hit UK cinemas on 15 July, before streaming on Netflix from 22 July. Wanted even more good news on The Gray Man? Well, just keep your eyes peeled on all things Empire in the coming weeks…
