The Grapes Of Wrath?

True-life wine tale planned

After Sideways’ success, we expected a flood of wine-based movies to follow. A trickle? Well, there’s a drip, at least.

Judgement Of Paris will be based on journalist George M Taber’s book about how California’s Napa Valley wines had their French competition seething with Gallic rage by winning a blind taste test in 1976. The event served to put the newborn wine industry on the map.

Producers Clark Peterson (who brought us Monster) and Elizabeth Fowler have corked the rights to Taber’s book, as well as the life story of wine expert Steven Spurrier – the man who organised the tasting session. The producers have pushed the film into development, but no writer is attached yet.
