Nicole Kidman's Grace Kelly biopic **Grace Of Monaco **was originally set to arrive in cinemas in March, but no longer. Offered the prestigious chance to open this year's Cannes Film Festival, it's been pushed back so as not to ruffle any feathers in the south of France. Last year, **The Great Gatsby **broke tradition by opening in the U.S. before it opened in Cannes, and Her Grace isn't rocking the yacht.
Producers The Weinstein Company and director Olivier Dahan were rumoured to have been sparring over the film, which originally featured on a sizzle reel shown to the press at last year's Festival with a view to a late November 2013 release. Now, however, they appear to have made up happily.
As for the film itself, Grace Of Monaco is set between December 1961 and November 1962, when Grace Kelly (Kidman) maneuvered behind the scenes as Princess of Monaco to save her nation from political turmoil.
Written by Arash Amel, it finds Kelly – already ensconced as the wife of Prince Rainier III (Tim Roth) – called in to help save the nation from an escalating dispute about its tax status, as then- French President Charles de Gaulle handed her hubby a six-month deadline to reform the place’s financial laws. So it's not quite a hot button, high-action thriller, but more a look at how a woman better known for her beauty and film career became an international icon of royalty.
Also on the castlist are Paz Vega, Parker Posey, Frank Langella and Milo Ventimiglia, with no official release date confirmed now that the Cannes spot has been announced.
