Jet Li and Ronny Yu team for action biopic

Sonny and Cher made a great pairing, there's no denying it, but they wouldn't be our choice if we wanted an explosive action film made. Not our first choice, anyway. No, we'd be looking for people with slightly more experience in blowing things up and beating the ever-loving crap out of people. Enter Jet Li and Ronny Yu. According to Jet Li's official site, the harder-than-a-lead-safe-filled- with-blood-hard-nails action star will be teaming up with the Freddy vs Jason director for his next project. What appears to be an action biopic, the untitled film (almost certainly destined to become Dragon Fist of Death or some variation thereof) will tell the story of Chinese martial arts master Huo Yuanjia. Now, we won't hold it against you if you've no clue who he is (neither did we) but just for your information, Huo Yuanjia is one of the most famous martial artists in modern Chinese history. Born in 1868, Huo was the son of a caravan guard and trained in his family's martial arts from a young age. In 1901, one of his students showed him a leaflet proclaiming that a Russian Boxer was the greatest fighter in China. Outraged at the dishonour to his people, Huo rose to the challenge and soon offered an open invitation to soundly whup the ass of anyone who thought the Chinese were weak. He was the founder of the Jin Wu Sports Federation and, many believe, the greatest fighter in Chinese history. Okay so it's not Dickens but there's potential for some serious fisticuffs here. Li's got the talent and, while Yu's track record isn't exactly spotless (Warriors of Virtue, anyone?), this looks like it might well have some potential. If you reckon you can dish out some damage then you could be in it too. Much like Huo himself, Jet-Li has placed an open invitation to martial artists across the world, though this time it's to be in the film, not have their teeth kicked in. You can find out the details here. Thanks to Comingsoon.net.
