The first trailer for long-range rom-com Going The Distance, starring Justin Long and Drew Barrymore, has arrived online.
Posing the eternal question of whether love can work when the couple are far apart most of the year – in this case, on either side of the US – Distance follows Erin (Barrymore) and Garrett (Long) who fall for each over during one summer in New York, try to keep it simple, but realise that lust has turned to love. When Erin heads to San Francisco to finish studying, they try to keep things going, but realise that absence doesn’t always make the heart grow fonder.
Nanette Burstein – who first got noticed directing the high school documentary American Teen – is behind this one, which largely trades on the charisma of on-again/off-again real life couple Long and Barrymore.
But despite the talent involved, including Christina Applegate and It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia’s Charlie Day, it still comes off looking a lot like your basic, factory-produced rom-com. The Berlin gag is a nice touch, though.
