Back in 2022, we learned that Edgar Wright had added a potential new version of The Running Man to an already stuffed To Do list. Now, thanks to Paramount's CinemaCon presentation on Thursday, news lands that it has shoved its way to the top of that list, with rising star Glen Powell now aboard to star.

Adapted back in 1987 into an action movie starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, the dystopian tome is set in 2025, where the world economy is in ruins and America is a totalitarian dystopia. The Ben Richards of the Stephen King book is quite different from the tough guy of the movie, and the story, about him being roped into a dangerous, violent game where he must avoid hunters and survive long enough to win cash prizes.

In fact, the book is very different to the movie as a whole, so we're fascinated to see what Wright and his Scott Pilgrim collaborator Michael Bacall have done with their version.

Powell is on a real hot streak at the moment, especially thanks to the success of Top Gun: Maverick and more recent rom-com Anyone But You. Next up for the actor is a one-two punch of a reunion with Linklater for Hit Man (which he co-wrote), due on Netflix on 7 June and event sequel/re-working Twisters, which touches down on 19 July.
