If you were disappointed to learn that Glen Powell had lost the Top Gun sequel role of Goose's son to Miles Teller, we have good news ready to land. Powell will also appear in the movie in an unknown role.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Powell – who made it to the last three for the other part in contention with Teller and Nicholas Hoult – so impressed the producers (including star Tom Cruise) that they've decided to offer him another, currently mysterious role, one that will in fact be beefed up now he's joining the film.

So both Powell and Teller will star alongside Cruise, who returns to his iconic role of Pete "Maverick" Mitchell and Val Kilmer, playing old rival Tom "Iceman" Kazansky as they school newer flyers in an age when drone warfare is slowly replacing the dogfighting of old.

Joseph Kosinski is set to start shooting soon on the film, with a release date scheduled for 12 July next year. Powell is currently to be found on Netflix rom com Set It Up.
