As it continues to broaden its scope for original filmmaking along with its big catalogue of titles from other studios, Netflix is adding new films all the time. The latest to be announced is Ibiza, which will star Gillian Jacobs, Vanessa Bayer and Phoebe Robinson.
Lauryn Kahn, who started her career as Adam McKay's assistant and proved her mettle by writing and performing pieces for his Gary Sanchez company on Funny Or Die, is behind the script, which Sony originally bought in 2014 when it was called I'm In Love With The DJ. After lingering there, it's now headed to the streaming service, with fellow Funny veteran Alex Richanbach in the director's chair.
Ibiza's story follows Jacobs as a young woman on a business trip to Barcelona and Ibiza who has her two best pals tag along with her. But what should have been a simple chance to have fun becomes a crazy hunt for a popular DJ.
Jacobs is one of the stars of Netflix's Love and will be seen in movies including Lemon and Life Of The Party. Bayer has just left Saturday Night Live and has biographical comedy drama The Polka King on the horizon. Robinson appears on Amazon show I Love Dick and is one half of podcasting team 2 Dope Queens with Jessica Williams.
