Gillan Joins Not Another Happy Ending

Despite her star rising thanks to the role of Amy Pond in Doctor Who, it doesn’t seem like Karen Gillan has been able to crack the big screen just yet. While she was announced as part of the cast of David Baddiel’s **Romeo and Brittney last year, that film seems mired in the development swamps. So perhaps she’ll have more luck with indie romance tale Not Another Happy Ending.

No, it’s not set in a dodgy massage parlour. Ending actually follows a lovely but oddball writer (Gillan) who specialises in misery-packed yet hugely successful fiction. Unfortunately for her, that success has led to her becoming much happier, which in turn means she’s now suffering from a serious case of writer’s block.

In steps her publisher (Black Death’s Emun Elliott), who decides to make her life miserable once more. In the process, of course, he discovers that he loves her. Yup, it sounds distinctly formulaic, but hopefully will turn out to be something fun.

Crush director John McKay wrote the script and will call the shots on this one. “We have two of the newest, hottest, sexiest pair of lead actors out of Scotland. Just right for the kind of quirky, romantic indie movie this is set to be,” McKay said in a statement picked up by Screen Daily.

He plans to kick off shooting around the end of the year. Here’s hoping Gillan gets her cinematic shot at last…
