The Memoirs of a Geisha trailer has been online for a couple of weeks, in a difficult-to-access Japanese-dubbed form, but finally it's up in glorious Quicktime with English and everything. And it's a sumptuous looking trailer, which you can see right here.

Based on Arthur Golden's best-selling book, the story follows a young girl, Chiyo, who is taken from the impoverished fishing village where she was born to become a geisha in the big city. Under the protection of Mameha, a successful geisha, she becomes a successful geisha known as Sayuri. But when World War II breaks out, her life turns upside down.

The film stars Ziyi Zhang, Ken Watanabe and Michelle Yeoh, and is directed by Chicago's Rob Marshall. It's due out January 13 here, but check out the link above for a first look. If this is anything to go by, this is going to be beautifully shot and as good looking as its leading lady. Whether it works as a drama remains to be seen, but it's only a few months now until we find out.
