He broke through in a big way (mostly through walls) this year with The Raid, but Gareth Evans is looking to prove he can terrify us with more than fast fists and astounding action. Evans has joined the cadre of directors contributing to horror anthology V/H/S 2.

Eduardo Sanchez, of the original Blair Witch Project and Lovely Molly, is also aboard, along with Hobo With A Shotgun’s Jason Eisener, Gregg Hale, Adam Wingard, Simon Barrett, and Timo Tjahjanto, who will co-direct with Evans.

Following a similar pattern to the first film’s framing method, the new movie will see detectives breaking into a suspect’s house to find evidence while searching for a missing student. They discover a hub of recording equipment and a series of tapes that hold the various horrors. Shooting is taking place in Los Angeles, Maryland, Nova Scotia, British Columbia and Indonesia, where Evans is also cracking on with the sequel to The Raid, currently titled Berandal. According to the man himself, he's already shot his V/H/S contribution.

But hold on, there, Empire, we hear you saying. A sequel? The first film has yet to haunt my multiplex. What gives? Well, you’ll be able to watch the original in UK cinemas from January 18 next year. Take a look at the trailer below.
