Gareth Evans Set For Raid Sequel

Actiontastic thriller The Raid doesn’t even open here for a couple of months, but there’s good news if you’re already anticipating it – you won’t have to worry whether it’ll generate a sequel. Yes, the follow up is already being planned. In even better news,it’ll be crafted by the director / star combo of Gareth Evans and Iko Uwais.

Evans has talked up the possibility of a sequel in several interviews, but there was no official word on the new film actually entering development. That all changed thanks to Sony Worldwide picking up various rights to the movie and pushing for more.

If you’ve yet to see the trailer or didn’t read our story on the film, The Raid finds an Indonesian SWAT team getting trapped in a tower building in the middle of a Jakarta scum that is controlled by a crime lord. With no chance of backup, it’s up to Uwais’ officer and his team to fight their way out.

The sequel is fairly under wraps for now, but it’s currently called Berendal, follows on from the events of the original, will shoot for around 100 days and boasts a significantly bigger budget. We’d much rather have more from Evans and co than watch an American remake, which is also being contemplated.

There’s every chance you will walk out of The Raid on May 18 wanting to see more, and now you’ll have the opportunity. Hooray!
