Just when you thought that the great battle of the Game Of Thrones prequels had been won thanks to the series order for House Of The Dragon, another contender is, according to Variety, stepping into the ring. A series based on the Tales Of Dunk And Egg prequel novellas is in early development.

While no writer or other creative types are attached to the show yet, the trade magazine reports that it is a priority for HBO. The one-hour show would follow Ser Duncan the Tall (Dunk) and a young Aegon V Targaryen (Egg), in stories set 90 years prior to the events of A Song Of Ice And Fire.

Thrones overlord George RR Martin published three novellas featuring the characters – Ser Duncan the Tall (Dunk) and a young Aegon V Targaryen (Egg) 90 years prior to the events of “A Song of Ice and Fire.” The books, 1998's The Hedge Knight 2003's The Sworn Sword and 2010's The Mystery Knight were later collected as A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms in 2015.

The two characters are fan favourites, so this makes sense, but now we'll wait and see if the concept develops into a show. House Of The Dragon, meanwhile, is scheduled to hit screens in 2022.
