Michael Apted, having forged a reputation as a quality documentary maker, is back in the field. The playing field, that is… He’s busy directing what is currently working titled The Michael Apted Football Project, (somehow we think that's going to change) which looks at the impact of footie around the world.

Apted will follow six people who see football as a way to get their shot at fame, a way to protest or the only way out of a tough life. He’s already shot in America, South Africa and Iran and will next head to the UK, Argentina and Senegal, before finishing up at next year’s World Cup in Germany.

"We believe Michael Apted will deliver an extraordinary view of the world's greatest game, capturing the impact and effect soccer has on individual lives across the globe," says Francois Ivernel, of Pathe, which is distributing the film.
