Hurrah! Square-jawed Mummy star Brendan Fraser has signed up to star in Journey 3-D, Walden Media’s previously announced update of Journey To The Centre Of The Earth, which New Line is handling.

Clearly untroubled by thoughts of typecasting, Fraser will play a geologist (okay, not very Mummy-alike) who, with his son (Mummy-alike alert!) discovers a message in an ancient artefact, which leads them on a quest deep within the bowels of the Earth.

Visual effects man Eric Brevig has already agreed to direct and DV DeVincentis (of High Fidelity co-writing) fame has cranked out the script. Brevig plans to shoot live action, with landscapes and creatures filled in via high-definition 3D CG tech, a la Sky Captain.

We’re concerned that the script might end up the same quality, but with DeVincentis on board, it should be a little better.
