The aim to remake John Carpenter’s cult favourite action adventure Escape From New York has become something of a slog for Hollywood in recent years. Directors, scripts, studios and casting suggestions have come and gone, but the redo has edged no closer to hitting screens. 20th Century Fox has won the rights to the film in a bidding war and will develop yet another reinvention – this time with Carpenter attached as an executive producer.

According to Deadline, Carpenter’s role will be to have “creative influence” over the project, in whatever fashion that ends up happening. There’s no indication over what this latest potential film will do to the original plot, in which Kurt Russell’s mercenary Snake Plissken is sent to retrieve the American President from New York, which in the future has been turned into a massive prison. Given 22 hours to complete the job, the eye patch sporting anti-hero takes on all manner of villains, punks and psychopaths.

Versions including a Snake origin story and huge twists on the concept have come and gone, but Fox is reportedly starting from scratch all over again, and the first task will be to find a filmmaking team. So, how do you feel about this latest development? Let us know below or hit the Twitters...
