Including Jeff Anderson and Traci Lords?

Five More Join Kevin Smith's Porno

Kevin Smith starts shooting his new movie, Zack & Miri Make A Porno, next Wednesday (or it may even be today; we’re not sure. It’s definitely on a Wednesday, though). This is a Good Thing.

However, up until today, Smith had only cast his Zack (Seth Rogen), his Miri (the gorgeous Elizabeth Banks), and the ubiquitous Jason Mewes (as an as-yet unknown character, but we’re guessing not Jay) in the low-budget comedy, in which our titular heroes try to make money by getting their friends to star in a porno.

That all changed in one fell swoop, though, when he added five new actors to the cast, including the brilliant Jeff Anderson (aka Randal from Clerks and Clerks II). No word yet on whether Anderson is playing a different character (we think this one isn’t set in the Askewniverse, so that might be a safer bet than usual), but his casting is unusual, given his reluctance to come back for Clerks II. Perhaps his experience on that movie has persuaded him to give this acting lark a full-time bash after all?

Also joining the cast are Craig Robinson, who fans of the brilliant The Office: An American Workplace should know as Darryl, the warehouse manager. A talented comedian, Robinson has been cropping up in Judd Apatow flicks like Knocked Up and Walk Hard recently, and it’s good to see him get more exposure.

Then comes the really interesting casting: ex-porn star, Traci Lords? Figures. It’s a movie about making a porno, and she’s proved she can act. Katie Morgan, an actual, current porn star who’s got her own HBO documentary, has also joined the cast, perhaps with a view to lending the movie an air of verisimilitude. Morgan’s film credits read like Randal’s infamous porno rant in Clerks – and what with this being a family site, we’re not going to repeat titles like Tongues And Twats 1, and Blonde Crack Attack. No sirree.

Oh, and some dude named Ricky Mabe has also signed on to the cast.

So, with porn stars, current and former, joining the cast, we can expect this to be Smith’s raciest, raunchiest comedy yet. Fingers crossed it’s also his funniest.
