Though Studio Ghibli isn't directly creating feature-length animation of its own, the company can still help out with other movies and lend the weight the name carries. A prime example is The Red Turtle, which was in the Best Animated Feature Oscar race this year and is finally headed to UK shores. See the new trailer below.

Featuring no dialogue and no names for its characters, The Red Turtle finds a man shipwrecked on a mysterious island that is home to turtles, crabs and birds. Initially resigned to a life alone, he's thrilled to find a woman who has similarly been washed ashore.

And so the film tells the story of their love and life, and the child they raise... plus the dangers that lurk around every corner. It might not be directed by the Ghibli team (Michael Dudok de Wit oversaw it from a script he wrote with Pascale Ferran), but it certainly carries the style of thr studio.

The Red Turtle will be with us on 26 May.
