Not a lot happens in the first trailer for the follow-up to Danny Boyle’s 1996 cult classic Trainspotting. In fact, nothing really happens at all. But quite honestly, we don’t care. Spud, Renton, Sick Boy and Begbie are back (once again standing far too close to train tracks for comfort), so consider our nostalgia levels dialled up to 11.

Similar to the equally short ‘homage’ trailer that landed back in May, this 40-second teaser revels in its heritage, blasting out Iggy Pop’s Lust For Life (Trainspotting’s iconic track) while setting the boys against the orange of the posters that have been plastered across hundreds of walls over the past 20 years. Only, with more Robert Carlyle and less Kevin McKidd for, err, obvious reasons.

Loosely based on Irvine Welsh’s novel sequel Porno, it also looks like that T2 moniker is set to stay. Hey, if Suicide Squad got away with it...

Trainspotting 2 arrives in cinemas on January 27, 2017.
