James Gunn might have been let go by Marvel, but his career doesn't appear to be too badly affected, what with his signing on to work on the Suicide Squad sequel. And then there's this, his latest producer credit on Brightburn. Check out the first trailer for the film.

Written by Gunn's brothers Brian and Mark, and directed by old pal David Yarovesky, Brightburn puts a dark spin on the Superman origin story, as Elizabeth Banks and David Denman play a couple desperate to have a child who discover a crashed spaceship containing a baby. They raise the child – Brandon – as their own, but instead of becoming humanity's hero, the unusual alien boy turns out to be something quite darker...

We'll be fascinated to see how the film sidesteps legal worries from DC (the fact that it's coming out means that it's ironed everything out). It could be a lot of nasty fun...

Brightburn will be out in the UK on 24 May.
