John Carney, the man behind Once and 2014's Begin Again is back in a musical milieu for his next film. The first trailer for Sing Street has arrived online.

Like Once, this draws heavily from his own life and spins the story of 14-year-old Cosmo (Ferdia Walsh-Peelo), who longs to break free from his life in Dublin and the money troubles of his parents. Moved to a new school, he quickly realises that it's going to be harder to fit in and thinks a possible way out (and a chance to impress a local beauty played by Lucy Boynton) to form a band and start shooting music videos. But how do you do that when you've zero budget?

With Jack Reynor as Cosmo's unruly, but weirdly wise older brother and Aidan Gillen and Maria Doyle Kennedy as his mum and dad, Sing Street promises all the knowing references to '80s music you could want (bad news, Phil Collins) and Carney's usual grasp of heart in drama. The film itself will be out on April 22.
