It's not quite the first image, since we've already seen a teaser poster. But the hi-res shot over at Bloody Disgusting is our first on-set glimpse of Paul Bettany in **Priest. Look on his works, ye mighty.

What we have here is Bettany, sporting a forehead-cross that puts us immediately in mind of Deicide's Glen Benton, in what looks like a war-zone, crouching over Powder. Or is it the Grim Reaper from Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey? Whatever, it gives some idea of a bleached out, Book of Eli / The Road look to the film, and we wonder how that will sit with the 3D FX that pushed Priest's release back several months.

Based on Min-Woo Hyung's comics, Priest stars Bettany as a renegade warrior monk sworn to fight vampires after the abduction of his niece into the Cursed Earth outside his walled city. Karl Urban is the vampire leader, and the film is by Scott Charles Stewart, who also directed Bettany in Legion. We were looking forward to Priest a lot more before we saw Legion, but its new release date of next May, making it a bona-fide summer movie instead of one buried in the winter months, suggests that studio Screen Gems have faith.
