Florence Pugh has continued her impressive run of work with this year's Black Widow, and the cameras have just started rolling on her latest job, Sebastián Lelio's The Wonder. Check out the first image of Pugh in costume above.

Tom Burke, Niamh Algar, Elaine Cassidy, Toby Jones, Dermot Crowley, Brían F. O'Byrne, Ciarán Hinds and Kíla Lord Cassidy are also in the cast for the film, which Lelio adapted from Emma Donahue's book alongside the novelist and Lady Macbeth's Alice Burch.

The Wonder is set in the Irish Midlands in 1862, where a young girl stops eating but remains miraculously alive and well. English nurse Lib Wright (Pugh) is brought to a tiny village to observe 11-year old Anna O'Donnell (Kíla Lord Cassidy).

Tourists and pilgrims mass to witness the girl who is said to have survived without food for months. Is the village harbouring a saint 'surviving on manna from heaven' or are there more ominous motives at work?

Lelio is shooting the film now in Ireland. "Bringing the powerful novel The Wonder to the screen not only offers me the chance to portray the collision between reason and faith, individual and community, obedience and rebellion, but also to explore my own interpretation of what a 'period' film can be," he says. "I couldn’t be more thrilled that the magnetic and courageous Florence Pugh will play our fierce female lead." Netflix is backing the film, and it'll be on screens via the streaming service next year.
