Finally emerging from a mammoth, troubled development that saw it shut down at least once while the budget was hacked back to an affordable number for Disney's accountants to approve, The Lone Ranger is now shooting. Uber-producer Jerry Bruckheimer has now tweeted the first picture of Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer in costume as Tonto and John Reid, which you can see below.Yes, director Gore Verbinski and his team have decided to push a distinctly gothic feel to the Ranger, which ends up (partly thanks to Depp’s presence) looking a little like Tim Burton’s The Lone Ranger. Of course, we’ll have to see and hear Depp’s interpretation of the role to find out if this new take on Tonto works, but it’s certainly distinctive.
Our heroes will be going up against the fiendish Butch Cavendish (William Fichtner) and his gang as they battle to maintain justice as part of their adventures. And then, one assumes, go on to a very strange party…
The Lone Ranger also features Helena Bonham Carter, Tom Wilkinson, James Badge Dale, Barry Pepper, Ruth Wilson and James Frain. It plans to giddy up into our cinemas on May 31, 2013.
