Should he choose to accept it...

Negotiations are in the final stages apparently for director David Fincher to take over as director of the third outing for Tom Cruise in Mission Impossible III. Variety reports today that Fincher's agents are putting the finishing touches to an agreement for the director to take on the franchise, according to spies from inside Paramount Pictures - home of Ethan Hunt and his trusty cohorts. Presumably, the fact that Fincher's latest film Panic Room is doing storming business at the box office - taking almost $80 million in its first two weeks of release in the US - can only help discussions along. Tom Cruise and his producing partner Paula Wagner are already on board to produce, but both Cruise and Fincher's agents are yet to confirm the rumours.
