Next month, this year’s British Independent Film Awards will be handed out. And because that can’t happen if no one has been nominated for them, the nominations were announced today via the medium of Ewan McGregor.

The nominees include a sprinkling of films already getting plenty of attention, including Philomena, Filth and Under The Skin, plus a few that have yet to see the inside of cinemas, including Tonight You’re Mine, and director David Mackenzie’s latest, prison drama Starred Up, which played at the Toronto and London Film festivals, but will not be out here until next March.

Actors under consideration for the awards include Judi Dench, Scarlett Johansson, Felicity Jones, Saoirse Ronan, Jim Broadbent, Tom Hardy, Steve Coogan and James McAvoy.

December 8 is the date to pencil into your diary for the awards themselves, and the full list of nominees is below.
