Despite winning a raft of awards, including the Palme D'Or, the passionate response to Dancer in the Dark - critics have either loved or hated it - has affected box office figures. The movie, which opened in Scotland and the West End on 15 Sept has failed to draw in the expected audience. But such is FilmFour's confidence in the movie that Deputy Chief Executive, Peter Buckingham today made a unique promise to viewers: 'Go to see Dancer in the Dark on Friday 29th of Sept, and if you don't like it, the cinema manager will refund your money. If, though, you are deeply affected by Lars von Trier's vision, and are moved to tears by Bjork's performance, you won't be alone.' Will this pave the way for other distributors offering similar guarantees? Here's hoping.
