The last time director Yorgos Lanthimos and writer Tony McNamara worked together, the result was the Oscar-nominated (and, in the case of star Olivia Colman, winning) historical pitch-dark comedy The Favourite. They agreed to reunite for a new film, but details had been scarce until now. According to The Hollywood Reporter, they're adapting The Hawkline Monster.

New Regency is backing the film, which will be based on Richard Brautigan's 1974 book. It follows two unlikely hero gunslingers hired by a 15-year-old girl named Magic Child to kill the monster that lives in ice caves under the basement of a house inhabited by a young woman named Miss Hawkline. What follows is a unique adventure where there is more to Magic Child, Miss Hawkline and the house than meets the eye.

It's a tome that several filmmakers, including Hal Ashby and Tim Burton have tried to bring to screens in the past. And whatever Lanthimos and McNamara do with it, you know it'll be something fresh.
