After living life a quarter mile at a time through eight films (with the ninth on the way next year), it appears that Dom Toretto (Vin Diesel) and co. might actually be ready to drive off into the sunset. According to Deadline, the Fast & Furious franchise will bow out with two more movies overseen by veteran director Justin Lin.

He's currently busy putting the finishing touches to Fast & Furious 9, which was delayed from a planned 2020 release by the pandemic. The plan for the two wrap-up films would be to include a huge roster from the various films, with the focus on the usual gang – Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Jordana Brewster and Nathalie Emmanuel.

The big question will be whether Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham return after spinning off to their own Hobbs & Shaw film, though given the issues between Diesel and Johnson, there's every chance that he and Statham will stick to their own lanes. Still, the lure of getting everyone back to two last hurrahs is no small matter.

While some of the Fast team has talked about wrapping things up, it's surprising that Universal would want to end its most successful franchise. But you just know that other spin-offs are already being considered.

Fast 9, meanwhile, will be out in the UK on 28 May next year.
