Driving into its second week of release, Fast & Furious 8 (as it is known in the UK) continues to lead the pack in terms of box office results in the States and across the world. The latest entry into the successful franchise has now crossed $163.5 million in the US after adding $38.68 million according to studio estimates.

While that represents a 60% drop from its opening weekend, the new film is still going great guns, and its global performance is even better. With strong showings in China and elsewhere, Fast 8 is closing in on a billion dollars worldwide after just two weekends on release. That $908.3 million is breaking records and seems set to stick around for a while.

The new movies entering the charts had much less success, which means that The Boss Baby clung like an infant to second with $12.7 million and Beauty And The Beast stayed third on $9.9 million. Only one new arrival cracked the top five, and it was the one on the least amount of screens: Disney Nature's Born In China, with the latest wildlife release earning $5.1 million. Caper comedy Going In Style rounded out the top five on $5 million.

Smurfs: The Lost Village was sixth, adding $4.85 million, and then the second of the week's new arrivals, stalker thriller Unforgettable hit seventh with an unremarkable $4.8 million. Gifted was down from sixth place to eighth on $4.5 million, ahead of The Promise, which couldn't drum up much interest and launched in ninth with $4 million. The Lost City Of Z, meanwhile, expanded its release and snuck into the top 10 on $2.1 million.

Stepping outside the top 10 for a moment, found footage thriller Phoenix Forgotten began its run with a disappointing 11th-place kick-off and $2 million, while Ben Wheatley's Free Fire opened in more limited release and took in $1 million, which is still a wider opening and more money than most of Wheatley's movies have managed in the States.
