Must… Resist… Shame-referencing puns based on… The title… Tension… Building... Ahem. With that nonsense out of the way we can report that Michael Fassbender is in early talks to star in Gerardo Naranjo’s romantic drama The Mountain Between Us. STOP GIGGLING.

J Mills Goodloe has adapted the script from Charles Martin’s novel, which finds two strangers surviving a plane crash in the Colorado woods and braving the elements together. The experience draws them closer and they fall in love.

Fassbender is interested in the role of Ben Trace, a doctor and climbing fanatic who helps injured writer Ashley as they make their way down a mountain in unforgiving weather. Rumours that Liam Neeson will cameo to punch any dangerous fauna they meet along the way are, of course, entirely a production of our overactive imagination.

Naranjo made his directorial debut with much-praised Mexican thriller Miss Bala and is now working with 20th Century Fox to bring the Mountain to us. Fassbender already has a full schedule, gearing up to make Cormac McCarthy script **The Counsellor with his Prometheus director Ridley Scott before another creative reunion with old mucker Steve McQueen on Twelve Years A Slave. Prometheus is set to rock our collective worlds on June 1.
