Farrellys Tipping The Valet

Remaking a French farce

Hearing that Peter and Bobby Farrellys’ name is attached to something called The Valet might make you think that their last film – baseball comedy The Perfect Catch – did so badly that they’re reduced to parking cars for cash. Well, it’s not that serious yet…

They’re planning to remake Francis Veber’s farce La Doublure, which has setting the box office alight in its native France. The plot sees the hapless titular employee caught up in a paparazzi picture that also contains a millionaire and his mistress in a fight.

DreamWorks has the rights to Veber’s film and the Farrellys currently plan to produce and possibly direct. If they do jump on board fully, it’ll mark their third remake in as many years. The Perfect Catch was (very) loosely based on our own Fever Pitch, while they’re already working on a re-do of 1972 married-man-realises-he’s-made-a-serious-mistake comedy The Heartbreak Kid, with Arrested Development’s Jason Bateman set to star.

Veber, meanwhile has long been the favourite French source for Hollywood material. The Birdcage and Father’s Day were both made from his films and he’s more recently sold an adaptation of Le Diner De Cons, with an eye on Sacha Baron Cohen starring.
