Dakota Fanning is getting ready to rock out, as she negotiates the role of gravel-voiced teen lead singer Cherie Currie for '70s girl-band biopic The Runaways. The group - knowns for their raunchy onstage outfits - also featured Joan Jett, who is set to be portrayed by none other than Twilight's Kristen Stewart.

Currie was just 15 when the band broke so Fanning fits the part - but she will have to bleach those locks, reach for the platforms and ramp up her wild side - as her character became embroiled in hard-edge drug-fuelled partying lifestyle as the band hit the big time.

Child-star Fanning, who most recently showed off her teen credentials in Push, is also set to hook up with Stewart again, in the upcoming New Moon, playing Jane, the youngest member of the vampire royal family - the Volturi.

The film is written and directed by Italian photographer-turned-helmer Floria Sigismondi, and begins production in spring.
