He may have locked in his four main leads for Lone Survivor, but Peter Berg still has a few choice positions to fill in the casting troop. Eric Bana has been called up for duty in the real-life tale.

Based on Marcus Luttrell’s account of a Navy SEAL mission gone tragically wrong, Lone Survivor finds Luttrell (Mark Wahlberg) and his team (including Taylor Kitsch, Emile Hirsch and Ben Foster) ambushed in Afghanistan by the Taliban in 2005. After a lengthy firefight and foot chase, almost all the remaining troops were taken out, resulting in the largest loss for the force in its history. Bana will be playing a SEAL lieutenant.

After having Universal buy up the rights to Luttrell’s book, developing the project for five years (even going to the extent of embedding with the SEALs for a while), Berg is set to finally kick off making the movie next month in New Mexico.

Bana will next be seen in Deadfall alongside Olivia Wilde and Charlie Hunnam, and he’s also finished work on John Crowley’s still-untitled thriller.
