The biggest news in Box Office reporting today is probably Thor: The Dark World’s impressive haul in the UK and around the world, but in the US they’re still waiting for Asgard’s favourite son to arrive. In the meantime, Ender’s Game overcame some controversial press and mixed reviews to manage a minor win, landing at the top of the charts with $28 million.

The sci-fi adventure pushed Johnny Knoxville’s Bad Grandpa down to second place, though the prank comedy pic still managed to earn $20.5 million, meaning it has hit $62 million in two weeks from a $15 million budget. Old fogey Hangover pic Last Vegas might have boasted the likes of Michael Douglas, Morgan Freeman, Kevin Kline and Robert De Niro, but the star wattage could only push it to $16.5 million and third place. Still, that put it ahead of animated turkey ‘toon** Free Birds**, which launched in fourth with $16. 2 million - sadly for hacks, that's not a poor performance that would allow for the "total turkey" jokes they had lined up. Rounding out the top five we have Gravity, which added $13.1 million to its total.

Captain Phillips was down to sixth place, earning $8.5 million, with **12 Years A Slave **adding cinemas and jumping up one place to seventh with $4.6 million. Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs 2 fell to eighth and $4.2 million, while Carrie was ninth with $3.4 million. The Counsellor saw a nasty drop in its second week, falling from fourth to 10th for $3.25 million.
