Emma Thompson Is A White Saviour In The New Trailer For Late Night

Late Night

The combination of Emma Thompson's well-honed prickly side and the enthusiastic, warm nature of Mindy Kaling is an appealing one, and seemingly put to good use in cine-comedy Late Night. The new trailer is now online.

Kaling also wrote the script for the film, which sees Thompson as Katherine Newberry, a long-running legendary talk show host who made history by becoming the first woman to host such a show on main US network telly. But her (and her show's) glory days are behind her, and with criticism of a stale format and a bland, all-male, whiter-than-white writing team ringing in her ears, she looks to recruit some new blood. Enter Kaling's Molly Patel, a newbie in the world of writing who nevertheless seems primed to shake things up.

Nisha Ganatra, who has worked on episodes of various comedy shows including Kaling's own The Mindy Project, is director here, with the cast also including John Lithgow, Reid Scott, Amy Ryan and Hugh Dancy. Late Night will be in UK cinemas on 7 June.
