As Hasbro continues its attempt to turn every one of its toy properties into movies – chasing a success at the level of the Transformers franchise – it was inevitable that it would take a second look at My Little Pony. And now it has Emily Blunt lining up to add her voice to the new animated movie.

Spurred by the success of the TV series Friendship Is Magic, Hasbro and Lionsgate have a film based in the world of the show and has the main voice cast including Tara Strong, Cathy Weseluck, Andrea Libman, Tabitha St. Germain and Ashleigh Ball plus film addition Kristin Chenoweth, who will voice the Mane 6: Twilight Sparkle, Applejack, Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, Fluttershy and Rarity.

The story here will see a new dark force (probably not that dark) threatening Ponyville and sending the regulars on a journey beyond the land of Equestrian to meet new friends and face fresh challenges. There's no indication on whether Blunt will be one of those new friends, or the source of terror in the world. The film will arrive on November 3 next year.

Blunt will be in a much more conflicted mood for The Huntsman: Winter's War, which is out on April 8. And she'll be seen later this year in thriller The Girl On The Train, pulling into cinemas on October 7.
