As the X-movies’ Kitty Pride, Ellen Page can run through walls and send others’ consciousness through time. Now, it appears she’s ready to dabble in the afterlife, as the actress is in talks to star in the long-developing reboot of 1990s sci-fi thriller **Flatliners.

If you're unfamiliar with the original, it starred Julia Roberts, Kiefer Sutherland, Kevin Bacon, William Baldwin and Oliver Platt, and involved medical students causing themselves all kinds of surreal mental anguish with their ill-advised near-death experiments. Source Code’s Ben Ripley has written the most recent draft of the script, which will likely update the story to include more modern science. And probably less neon, but then the original was a Joel Schumacher film.

Dead Man Down’s Niels Arden Oplev was attached to direct in 2013, and Sony has been trying to bring this one to life since at least 2011. It appears to be in a state of limbo, but news that the casting process is underway points to it finally registering a ping on the production monitor.

Page has worked on Freeheld, Into The Forest and **Tallulah **(the latter of which reunites her with Juno’s Allison Janney), but none of the films have UK release dates yet. Freeheld is out now in the US.
