After shaking down most of California with giant earthquakes, then drenching the place with a tsunami in successful disasterthon San Andreas, it looks like Dwayne Johnson and the studio/producers behind that film are going to set giant monsters on America next, working up an adaptation of classic Midway Arcade title **Rampage.

Those of a certain age will remember feeding coins into the arcade cabinet (and later playing at home) to control three giant monsters: George (a not-Kong giant gorilla), Lizzie (a certainly not Godzilla huge lizard) and Ralph (a definitely something other than The Wolfman massive werewolf), who were normal humans until they were the subject of experiments by the nefarious Scumlabs and turned into their monstrous forms.

The game largely involved you punching buildings to rubble, swatting at tanks and helicopters and noshing on random humans.** Non-Stop** co-writer Ryan Engle has come up with a way to turn that into a film for New Line and producer Beau Flynn, but Deadline reports that the details are still being kept quiet. So we don’t yet know if Johnson will be one of the people who ends up huge and destructive (let’s face it, they wouldn’t need much in the way of effects work), or if he’s someone caught in the midst of the chaos. Perhaps it might end up as a direct sequel to San Andreas, with poor old Ray Gaines having to saving those he loves from yet another destructive threat after moving to New York.

There’s no director attached yet, but all involved are trying to set this up ready for Johnson to shoot once he’s finished work on Fast & Furious 8. The ever-busy actor is currently shooting Central Intelligence with Kevin Hart and providing a voice for Disney’s animated adventure Moana. In his future, there is DC/Warner Bros.’ take on the Shazam! comics and a variety of other projects in development.
