An old west saga adapted

DreamWorks has gone the unexpected route and bought the rights to a book that’s new – but has actually hit the shelves already. Don’t they know the rules?

Anyway, it’s Blood And Thunder, Hampton Sides’ tome about the campaigns to settle the western states of America and the destruction of the Native American tribes who dared to make a stand based on the fact that, um, they were there first.

The book’s adaptation – which doesn’t yet have a writer, producer or director – will likely focus on one Kit Carson a trapper and mountain man who married two American Indian women but still took part in the slaughter. His actions were chronicled in the pulp tales then called “blood and thunders”, which give the book its name.
