The characters of Downtown Abbey are headed to a new spot in the cinematic sequel Downton Abbey: A New Era, so we suppose it's not that surprising that the movie might shift too. The film, originally scheduled for March, will now debut in April.
A New Era finds the Crawley family and various staff confronting two main stories: a pending royal visit and then a journey to the South of France to uncover the mystery of the Dowager Countess’ newly inherited villa.
Hugh Bonneville, Maggie Smith, Michelle Dockery, Joanne Froggatt and Penelope Wilton are all back, alongside new additions Hugh Dancy, Laura Haddock, Nathalie Baye and Dominic West. Original series creator Julian Fellowes wrote the script and Simon Curtis directed this latest big screen outing. No reason was given by Universal and Focus as to why the movie is shifting back a month.
Amend your calendars and alert your butler, then: Downton Abbey: A New Era will arrive in UK cinemas on 29 April, ahead of a Stateside release on 20 May.
