Robert Downey Jr. has been released from jail, following an appeal on his sentence. A four judge panel decided that time he spent in rehab should be counted towards his three year stretch. The 35 year old actor was imprisoned last year, after several stints in drug clinics failed to solve his addiction problems. He was released from Corcoran State Prison in California on Wednesday 2 August on $5000 bail. Downey himself has not made a statement, but his director in Wonder Boys, Curtis Hanson, told the Hollywood Reporter "As Robert's friend, I couldn't be more thrilled." It is not known whether Downey will make a return to acting in the future.
