Though it has taken a while to come together, and was recently pushed back a little in terms of release date, Disney's planned live-action take on Mulan is boosting its cast. Donnie Yen will play Commander Tung in the film.

Liu Yifei is playing the title role of the young woman who disguises herself as a man to take her father's place in the army in fifth-century China.

Niki Caro is in the director's chair for the film, which is in the process of finding the rest of its cast. Whether this version will have the same musical elements as the animated take remains to be seen, but Yen should provide the right sort of gruff authority with a side of wise mentorship.

Last seen in Rogue One and xXx: Return Of Xander Cage, Yen is about to kicks off work on Ip Man 4. As for Mulan, the movie will arrive in May 2020.
