John Lasseter promised that when he took over as Disney’s creative boss, he wouldn’t let 2-D animation disappear into history at the studio. And he’s making good on his word.

Lasseter and Ed Catmull have assigned John Musker and Ron Clements – best known for The Little Mermaid – to develop a new version of The Frog Prince, called Frog Princess.

The film will, according to The Hollywood Reporter, put a new, female-skewed spin on the classic tale. And their connection with the Mermaid hasn’t stopped – as well as working on the Frog tale, they’re busy with a digitally remastered version of the sea-lady story, which will hit DVD shortly.
