Alien Vs Predator might not have been a critical darling on its release, but it certainly generated enough money to greenlight a sequel.

Shane Salerno, who was partly responsible for AVP’s script, has been hard at work on a sequel screenplay, that, according to Fox’s Tom Rothman, will see the alien nuisances finally turn up on our door-step and not just in some frozen Antarctic temple.

And Fox has found itself a pair of directors – brothers Greg and Colin Strause, who are better known for their work on adverts and music videos, and also for their Hydraulics visual effects company, which has worked on X-Men: The Last Stand and The Day After Tomorrow. The fact that they’re close personal friends of recently promoted Fox production vice president Alex Young didn’t hurt either.

And the duo has big plans for the franchise follow-up. "We really want to take it back to the original Alien and Predator films and make a serious, gritty horror film," Colin Strause told Variety, with his brother chipping in: "We want to take it back to its roots, without losing sight of the human struggle. That's what made the originals so good."
